Netflix has revealed the cast details for its upcoming historical-drama series “Vikings Valhalla,” which is also a spin-off to History Channel's Vikings series. The Netflix original series comes from creator Michael Hirst, who continues the storytelling of his beloved epic Vikings saga. The series is produced by MGM Productions.

Much of the cast was already known, now it has been officially confirmed by Netflix, which actor will be playing which character in the series.

Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, the Iceland actor, who has previously appeared in Game of Thrones and was recently playing Ice King in the Netflix series "Cursed" is set to play Viking Harald Hardrada in the series. Hardrada is the son of a king of Denmark, wise, savvy, and ruthless, Kaden is guided by two different voices: Alienor, his politically astute queen, and Earl Colby, a scheming and ambitious Anglo-Saxon councilor.

Frida Gustavsson, the Swedish actor will play Freydis Eriksdotter. The official character description says "Vidar’s fiery half-sister. A sexually liberated and fiercely pagan shield-maiden. Signe is much more like their volatile father than Vidar. A horrific rape at the hands of a Christian Viking made her militantly anti-Christian and as the series progresses, Signe becomes the leader of the last Viking pagan holdouts against the rising tide of Christianity that is flooding Scandinavia. Mentored by the strong female leader of Kattegat, The Jarl, Signe leads the “last holdouts” in defense of a Viking Holy City against Christian Vikings and will eventually begin a personal quest to find a new home for them. Despite the hardened pagan views, she is romantically drawn into a relationship with the final main lead: a Christian Viking named Torsen."

British actor David Oakes is playing Duke William, Joakim Nätterqvist is playing Birkir, Bosco Hogan is playing Aethelred 'the Unready', Mark Huberman is Earl of Sussex, Alan Devine is Earl of Kent, and Gavin O'Connor is Earl of East Anglia.

Among other characters Jack Mullarkey will play Toke, Gavan O'Connor-Duffy is Njall, Yvonne Mai is Merin, and Bill Murphy is Ogda. Other actors whose roles are still unknown are Álfrún Laufeyjardóttir, Ethan Dillon, Kenneth M. Christensen, and Karen Connell.

“Vikings Valhalla” is set 100 years after the original series concludes and dramatizes the adventures of the most famous Vikings who ever lived – Leif Erikson, Freydis, Harald Harada, and the Norman King William the Conqueror (also a Viking descendant). These men and women will blaze new paths as they fight for survival in an ever-changing and evolving Europe. This is the explosive next chapter of the Vikings legend.

Executive producers are Michael Hirst (Vikings, The Tudors), Jeb Stuart (The Fugitive, Die Hard, The Liberator), and Morgan O’Sullivan (Vikings, Penny Dreadful).

“Vikings Valhalla” is likely to premiere in July 2021 on Netflix. The show is currently in production in Ireland after multiple delays due to COVID Pandemic.
