Matt Damon Battles Adam Driver in ‘The Last Duel’ First Trailer

20th Century Studios has revealed the first trailer for the action-packed history movie "The Last Duel." Directed by Ridley Scott, the film stars Matt Damon, Jodie Comer, Adam Driver, and Ben Affleck. The film will arrive in theaters on October 15, worldwide.

Based on a true story, the film is set in 14th-century France and tells the story of Knight Jean de Carrouges and Jacques Le Gris, two friends who become bitter rivals after Carrouges' wife, Marguerite, is attacked by Le Gris. When she publicly accused Le Gris, Carrouges steps forward to defend his wife's honor against his friend through trial by combat, a fight that will only be settled in death.

Matt Damon stars as Jean de Carrouges in the leading role with Adam Driver as Jacques Le Gris and Jodie Comer as Marguerite de Carrouges. The epic film also stars Ben Affleck as Count Pierre d’Alençon, Harriet Walter as Nicole de Buchard, Nathaniel Parker as Sir Robert de Thibouville, Michael McElhatton as Bernard Latour, and Sam Hazeldine as Thomin du Bois. 

The screenplay for the film was written by Nicole Holofcener, Affleck, and Damon, and is based on Eric Jager's book The Last Duel: A True Story of Crime, Scandal, and Trial by Combat in Medieval France. The movie is produced by Scott, Kevin J. Walsh, Nicole Holofcener, Jennifer Fox, Damon, and Affleck, with executive producers  Drew Vinton,  Kevin Halloran, and Madison Ainley.

The film was supposed to have a limited theatre release on December 25, 2020, followed by a wide release on January 8, 2021. However, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the release date has been pushed back until October 15, 2021.
