‘The Boys’ Season 3 Will be More Entertaining & Thrice Bloodier Than You can Imagine

Superheroes are the worst ... at least in The Boys season 3, which is currently filming new episodes

There’s no doubt that we’re excited for the third season of the superhero series with a twist. There’s something fresh about the show that paints the superheroes as the bad guys. Well, most of them, anyway. There are a few of the Supes trying to redeem themselves (or they weren’t all that awful in the first place), and we hope to see more of that during the third season.

The Boys season 3 is headed our way. Though we don't know when the series will arrive just yet, the good news is the third installment is filming now, so there's still hope of seeing Billy Butcher and co. back this year or early next. Unless they put all the cast and crew on Compound V, that is.

The second season of Amazon Prime's hit superhero show ended on a huge cliffhanger, with tons of intriguing, dangling plot threads that need wrapping up in the next set of episodes. Is Hughie going to survive his new gig with Victoria Neuman, who has proved adept at exploding heads? How is Homelander going to react after the revelations of the season finale? And will Stormfront make a – slightly crispy – return?

The Boys season 2 finale has major ramifications for the show moving forward. Not least of all season 3, has to deal with characters going their separate ways, new alliances being formed – and some not surviving at all.

The Boys Season 3 Cast

We can deduce that Urban, Quaid, and Moriarty will be back along with main cast members like Antony Starr as John/Homelander, Dominique McElligott as Maggie Shaw/Queen Maeve, Jessie T. Usher as Reggie Franklin/A-Train, Tomer Capon as Serge/Frenchie, Karen Fukuhara as Kimiko Miyashiro/The Female and more.

There will also be at least two new faces when season 3 of The Boys premieres. The latest addition to the cast is Katia Winter (Dexter) as Little Nina, who has worked with Vought and used a version of Compound V to make new supes. Jensen Ackles of Supernatural fame is also set to appear in the series as Soldier Boy. This character has been referred to on the show in the past and has been described as "the original Superhero.”

What Can We Expect in Season 3?

We can expect plenty of focus on Victoria Neuman. The secret Supe politician has been blowing up brains and surely has some sort of diabolical plan up her sleeve.

Butcher, too, might be in the sightlines of Vought and the reformed Seven after going back on his word and keeping Ryan out of the clutches of Stan Edgar. That, and the introduction of the first Supe, Soldier Boy, could mean more of the corporation’s origins are laid bare, too.

Victoria Neuman actor Claudia Doumit and Black Noir actor Nathan Mitchell spilled little information on what we can expect from their respective characters in the third season – which should serve as a nice appetizer until we find out more concrete aspects of The Boys season 3 story.

I’m excited to see what happens with Hughie and her. I’m excited to find out more about her. I’m excited to dig into what her backstory is and how she got to where she is. Also, I’m very excited to see her fuck some shit up, blow some heads up,” Doumit said of what she hopes to see from Neuman in the third season.

As for Black Noir? He has the potential to destroy in a very different, scarier way. On the potential changes to the Seven in season 3, Mitchell said, “He and Maeve are not going to get along! That’s pretty evident. It is so interesting because you have this forced alliance between people. Homelander doesn’t trust Maeve, doesn’t trust Starlight. Noir just fought Starlight, he doesn’t trust Maeve. A-Train just clawed his way back in, he has this uneasy alliance with Starlight, so now they’re frenemies.”

Supernatural star Jensen Ackles is arguably the biggest addition to The Boys season 3 cast. The Soldier Boy character, as we learned from Mr. Edgar (Giancarlo Esposito) in season 2, was one of the soldiers who was (apparently) a recipient of Compound V during World War II. But unlike Stormfront, Soldier Boy was fighting on the Allied side, as Frederick Vought had already switched sides.

Soldier Boy, it seems, would be a big riff on Captain America. Or at least that's how he was portrayed in the comic books. There, he led a group named Payback, the team that pre-dates The Seven. His group included Crimson Countess, Eagle the Archer, Tek Knight, Swatto, and ... Stormfront.

The Boys Season 3 Plot

Last fall's finale of The Boys ended with some stunning revelations about Stormfront (Aya Cash). She turned out to be a Nazi and the wife of Vought's founder.

Season 3 will continue to explore the origins of Vought as well as the Seven. As we noted above, Jensen Ackles has been cast as Soldier Boy. He was part of an original teamed called Payback, whose members included Stormfront, Eagle the Archer, Tek Knight, and Chrimson Countess.

"One of the reasons that we're getting into Soldier Boy [in season 3] and that team, Payback, is we're interested in exploring a little bit of how we got here," Kripke told in an interview. "Through the history of the supes, we can tell a little bit about the history of America and how we ended up in the current fraught position that we're in. Soldier Boy gives us an opportunity to do that."

One thing we can expect from The Boys season 3? There will be blood. Laz Alonso, who plays Mother's Milk, said that this may be the most violent season yet — and that's saying something.

"I was talking to the head makeup artist and she's in charge of ordering the blood — that's one of her many jobs," he explained. "She told me that all of Season 2... When you talk about bulk, I don't think they used over a gallon of blood in Season 2, believe it or not. Season 3, we're already at three and a half gallons of blood. So that should give you a little indication of where it's going."

The Boys season 3 is also set to introduce the satirical, voilent&sexual X-rated, "Herogasm," announcement was made by the showrunner Eric Kripke himself. Herogasm is a limited Spin-off, six-issue miniseries of The Boys universe. At first glance, it dangerously treads the line of pornography. Yet reading the first two issues further reveals several layers and sub-texts: it is not just a raunchy satire of the comics crossover and the comics industry's obsession with it; it also holds a mirror to us, comic book readers, for drooling and getting off on such events with masturbatory delight.
