‘Westworld’ is Back Online as Season 4 Begins Production at HBO

HBO's hit mystery & sci-fi series “Westworld” has officially started production on season 4 (June 14). Jeffrey Wright who plays Bernard Lowe in the series and creator Lisa Joy has revealed the news through their Instagram profiles.

The latest update comes from the creator and showrunner Lisa Joy who posted on her Instagram, a photo with mask and face shield and wrote, "Bring yourself back online." Later she also posted another photo and wrote, "Welcome to Westworld." Jeffrey Wright also posted a picture of his on-set sitting chair with his character name tag, "BERNARD," on Instagram and wrote, "Good morning…old friend."

Earlier, Aurora Perrineau (Prodigal Son) joined in a recurring role on the upcoming fourth season of HBO’s Westworld, the character description has been kept under the wraps. Perrineau also confirmed the news via her Instagram. 

Season 4 is likely to pick up soon after Caleb chooses to force Rehoboam into deleting itself as the Los Angeles turns into dust by explosives. Dolores’ body remains, but her memories are wiped in the process of toppling Rehoboam. Late in the episode, Bernard seemingly confirms Dolores’ death, saying they once shared a connection that he no longer senses. Evan Rachel Wood is returning for season 4 as Dolores still has some part to play in this season.

Among the other confirmed members returning for season 4 includes Jeffrey Wright, Thandiwe Newton, and Aaron Paul.

Westworld has previously taken two years per season since the series debuted in 2016. That would normally mean Westworld would return in 2022. 

Season 3 launched its eight-episode run on March 15 last year, surpassing 9M viewers across all platforms. The series, which is a dark odyssey about the dawn of artificial consciousness and the question of free will, was created for television by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. Previously showrunners Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy have said they have a full-series master plan that spans at least five seasons.

Season 3 takes place three months after the events of the second season with Evan Rachel Wood’s Dolores having escaped Westworld with a few processing cores including that of Jeffrey Wright’s Bernard. Taking residence in neo-Los Angeles in 2058, Dolores develops a relationship with Aaron Paul’s Caleb and comes to learn how artificial beings and lower-class humans are treated in the real world. Meanwhile, Thandie Newton’s Maeve finds herself in another part of the Delos park, based on Fascist Italy during WWII. Jimmi Simpson’s William, who also left Westworld at the end of the second season, is now haunted by visions of his daughter Emily, played by Katja Herbers and Dolores.

Ed Harris stars as the Man in Black, Tessa Thompson as Charlotte, Luke Hemsworth as Stubbs, Simon Quarterman as Lee Sizemore, and Rodrigo Santoro as Hector Escaton. Vincent Cassel, Lena Waithe, Scott Mescudi, Marshawn Lynch, John Gallagher Jr., and Michael and Tommy Flanagan also star in season three.
