Netflix has revealed the first teaser trailer for the live-action “Resident Evil ”series, which is a fresh take on the zombie apocalypse and is not connected to any video game, previous live-action, or animated films. All the eight episodes of ‘Resident Evil’ will release on July 14 on Netflix, worldwide.

The new series does not exactly follow the storylines of any of the successful video game or film franchise entries, but it does share certain key characteristics. A strong female lead struggling for survival, a malevolent Umbrella Corporation pulling the strings, and a slew of gnarly creatures on the hunt for a human-sized meal.

The series is set nearly three decades after the discovery of the T-virus, an outbreak that reveals the Umbrella Corporation’s dark secrets. The story of the series will unfold across two timelines:

In the first timeline, Jade and Billie Wesker, fourteen-year-old sisters, are relocated to New Raccoon City. A manufactured, corporate town thrust upon them at the height of youth. However, the more time they spend there, the more they discover that the town is more than it appears and that their father may be hiding deadly secrets. Secrets that have the potential to destroy the entire world.

In the second timeline, well over a decade into the future, there are just about fifteen million people left on the planet. And almost six billion monsters — T-virus-infected humans and animals. Jade, now thirty, is struggling to survive in this New World while her past secrets — about her sister, her father, and herself – continue to haunt her.

The series stars Lance Reddick as Albert Wesker, Ella Balinska as Jade Wesker, Tamara Smart, Siena Agudong, Adeline Rudolph, and Paola Nunez.

Written by Supernatural executive producer Andrew Dabb and produced by Constantin Film, which also produced the six-film franchise based on the games, serves as the studio behind the series. Dabb also serves as the showrunner for the series.
