‘Rest In Peace’ (2024) Netflix Movie Review - For the Family

Though the movie might be an excellent portrayal of what a father can do for his family, it missed the point of an emotional drama. These usually make us cry after touching our hearts in unexplainable ways, Rest in Peace failed to impress the audience. Although Sergio’s character did teach us a lot of things, it didn't exactly get the film's entry into the category where I would prefer recommending it.

The plot starts with Sergio going to buy a necklace for his daughter whom he adores a lot. His card was declined at the jeweler's shop and this was the first hint at how Sergio’s business was failing. The company was drowning in debt with workers walking out. Sergio took multiple loans and tried to hide from his family until the loan surpassed the mark where it could be kept a secret. The man came out to his wife about the debt. He had an idea about how to overcome the bankruptcy and it was by claiming his life insurance.

On the next day itself, Sergio became a victim of the bomb blast. It was as if his dream had become a reality. Everyone thought that Sergio was dead, and the audience too had doubts about it being true. His wife cried and slowly overcame his debt. The irony here is that she came into a relationship and married the same person to whom the family owed most of the debt.

Sergio too shifted into a place where no one knew him and slowly started living a life with no contact with everyone from his previous life. His family could pay everyone off through the money received from the life insurance. Their financial problems were solved, but there was always a burden in Sergio's chest.

The man lived a new identity working under a good family. Things were smooth until a woman recognized Sergio in the supermarket. This is when he felt the urge to see his family members through Facebook. He learned about how his family had moved on and despite several years of distance, he couldn't resist the urge to see them again.

The film's ending is very predictable, and you don't need to be a film enthusiast to know how the course of events changes. Overall, this film shows the deep love Sergio has for his family. The actors portray the role convincingly and I'm disappointed how the loneliness could be seen in his eyes, but the connection the audience makes with the character is missing.
